Saving Arcadia: A Story of Conservation & Community in the Great Lakes

  • 9 Aug 2021
  • 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM
  • CCC Chapel

Join us for the CBCA Presenter Series. Traverse City based environmentalist and author, Heather Shumaker will join us for an intimate conversation about her experience working locally to preserve the land and trails near and dear to us. In her book, Saving ArcadiaA Story of Conservation and Community in the Great Lakes, Heather Shumaker shares the remarkable untold stories behind protecting ‘Old Baldy’ and creating new nature preserves. Her book is intended in part as a case study for landscape-level conservation and documents the challenges of integrating economic livelihoods into conservation and what it really means to "preserve" land over time. Many of you may have contributed donations to help preserve the lands affected by this project. Thank you; we hope you will join us for this special event. RSVP by August 6th to Sarah Simmons @ Simmons.SAL77@gmail.com

Located on the south shore of beautiful Crystal Lake near Frankfort, Michigan, the Crystal Beach Cottagers Association (CBCA) continues the sense of community and fellowship originally established by the Crystal Beach Christian Assembly in 1916.  The Association is made up of 72 privately owned cottages which, in many cases, have  been in the same family for two or three generations.  This website is designed to communicate current information to the CBCA community.
